Cinematography Blog

I have found inspiration for this assignment in different forms, feature films, shorts and photography. I like to use a bit of everything when it comes to thinking of ideas of  images to shoot. I understand that light is the key to making images look stunning and unique, if you ignore lighting the video can look dull and boring, when all you need to do is wait for the right time of day or understand how to work a scene to obtain the best light. This is why i think research into locations is an important factor.

Cruel Intentions
I know it may not be the best film in the world, but i like it! Throughout the entire duration they use a lot of natural light and I think it gives the film a very organic feel. There is also a very nice scene in an indoor pool, the light reflected off the water and illuminates the whole scene in a way that is interesting because the light is constantly moving. I think that it really sets the mood for the scene and give it a sinister feel. Also in other parts of the film sunlight is often used as a key light, at times quite harshly and strong shadows are formed and intense areas of light. Others scenes the sun is used again but it has a much more gentle vibe and you really feel the colours.
